I want to live in Holland: modern kitchens and other curiosities from Amsterdam

What happens when you decide to set a video about a line of appliances for modern kitchens in the capital of Holland? Curiosity arises, and wondering what it must be like to live in Amsterdam and what its most interesting technological novelties are.

Curiosity: Amsterdam, a city with more bicycles than inhabitants, is today one of the most important technological ecosystems in the world.

Vivaciously active on the high-tech front, the Dutch capital is home to some of the most important business accelerators in Europe (Rockstart and Startupbootcamp, to mention just two) and is increasingly attracting major players on the digital stage, along with young entrepreneurs determined to realise their ideas, plus designers and creative professionals from all over the world.

But it’s not only the city’s great business and technology possibilities that attract people to live in Amsterdam: its green soul, its canals, its rhythms all present it on the international stage as one of the best places for people in search of a stimulating context without the frenzy typical of big cities.

All these characteristics make Amsterdam the ideal setting for highlighting a line of designer domestic appliances for very modern kitchens. Your instructions? Imagine the everyday life of a young family in the Dutch capital. The message? Return to the simple things… in kitchens as in life. Make work processes more efficient, in order to have more time together.

Try to imagine it: the sun rising over the canals, the perfume of coffee, the warm brioches waiting for you in the oven… Appealing, no?

A pleasurable Sunday morning, spent with your family, in a city that is fascinating for its cultural heritage, its style and the melting-pot of colours and cultures it is home to.

Amsterdam’s strong point? People. The people who live here, work here, study here or simply pass through on a visit… they’re the city’s lifeblood, the whirl of life and creativity that drives it.

When considering houses, settings, architecture and innovation, we discovered a curious fact: DUS Architects has designed and begun to construct, layer after layer, the first floating house entirely printed in 3D… The 3D Print Canal House. Completely renewable, sustainable and with zero environmental impact: an ambitious project indeed, planned to be finished before the end of 2017. Nor is this the only project of this kind underway in this astonishing city. The planner Joris Laarman, in collaboration with Autodesk, a world leader in the field of 3D design, plus MX3D, a company specialised in machines for steel printing, are working together to print… a bridge. When they get to printing 3D kitchen components, we’ll be the first in the queue.

The bridge-printing project began in autumn 2015 and – like the 3D Print Canal House – plans to finish by the end of this year.

So, this is not just a city for modern kitchens… there’s a whole culture projected towards the future, while maintaining its unique personality, heritage and beauty.

Do you need any further incentives to wonder about a change of life in Amsterdam?
